Ooh, that'll please the local dibble as, at least as of when I left, their entire phone system was Vodafone.

Lefty tighty. Get it righty.
Can Three and Vodafone users use either tower countrywide now, since the merger was approved, or is it still a work in progress?

Three gives the usual strong signal here.

They only merged a few months ago and IIRC were going to take several months over the rollout.

Fancy way of saying I don't know. I kind of doubt that it will be available to everyone, everywhere (ha ha I made a joke)

Sounds like intelligent planning 👍

If it'd been down for much longer I was going fire up a HotSpot on my phone (GiffGaf piggy-backing off O2)

The new Airwaves police radio replacement is a mobile phone based radio system, so when the network goes down so will the dibble.

Last I heard Vodafone had the contract, which is worrying. Doubly worrying is that the EMS do not have contractual priority so it the system suffers capacity issues the dibble aren't having their own access protected or ring fenced.
