Inspired by the 'What Jobs?' Thread, what volunteer work have you done or do you do?

I'm current a 4x4 Response Team member, making myself and my truck available I. Times of emergency or adverse weather.

I'm one of 4 search managers on a Rota for our local SAR team, one of only 84 in the UK with the qualification. My managers ticket allows be to do search planning, manage search operations, and work as a search technician when it's not my turn to run the show. I also teach MTB skills to SAR teams ( I charge, but the money goes to my home team).

So what volunteering does youse do?

Scout leader. Only two hours a week they said. (hollow laugh)

Nothing to get the pulse racing-

I was a volunteer tutor at an adult maths evening class for many years.
At the moment I am a "Police Support Volunteer " an we basically record speeding cars in the area and they get a stiff letter from plod. Just really doing what the cops now don't have the time to do but that is how it is and if you want something done you sometimes just have to do it.
Supporting wifey who works for the NHS is a bit of a job in itself too!

Helped out at Beavers cubs and Scouts for a few years. Nowt now.
"Beavers, Beavers, Rah, Rah, Rah".....the impending sound of doom......Anyone who wants to be a Beaver Leader needs their brains scooping out and feeding through a blender.

I'm actually off to do my stint in half an hours time!

I help out with a "meals on wheels" type service occasionally, Just picking up a chippy dinner for dear old dorris who cant get out or cook her own food or running a food package to a family who cant afford food for a church food bank when they have nobody to go out in a car, ill put it all in a big hiking rucksack and run it out on the motorbike.
Ill hopefully be volunteering as a blood bike rider when we move too. Only give to charitys like blood bikes, air ambulance etc, the ones that mean the most to me/do stuff for the motorcycling community mainly.

The mini Kelpies are coming to Aberdeen.
At the ILPH (horse rescue) in Aboyne. One of the horses from there was the model for the Kelpies, hope to see them.

I helped Cats Protection by socialising and taming the feral kittens, tamed quite a few in my time.
Also trapping adults for neutering and kittens for re homing.
Downside/upside is that I kept a few over the years. They all lived happy, healthy lives, longer than they would have on their own.
Also worked Saturday's in their charity shop.
Also visited animal sanctuary in Lanzarote twice, walked the dogs, socialised the cats and gave a donation.
Helped with riding for the disabled in UK and Portugal.

Paddle sport coaching. Often involving scouts, guides etc and some people with disabilities.

This was all in my local canoe club where I became Chairman, on the committee for 6 years in total.

I've been having a well earned rest since October 2014.

I wouldn't mind doing something else but I don't want to become tied to it.... I'm thinking it over at present.

Started with a few hours on a Thursday with the local scout troop. Later asked to help out when new leaders started in the Cubs(seperate night) & then the Venture Scouts when they started.

From there it was a simple case of helping at one that had just started up again. One where they tried starting up and onto a seperate group every weekday.

Weekends would often find me down at the locally owned Scout campsite. Also Warden Co-Ordinator for three districts.
