Volunteering since I left Skool

A couple of hours a week at the local scouts!

I was actually thinking about befriending for a school with learning difficulties, but as I said I don't want to be tied to it. This wouldn't be fair to whoever I befriended.

No voluntary stuff but I've put a lot into things i get emotional about . I'm not a saterday helper id rather pay to help..
guide dogs and terminal care are my thing....

A colleague and a few of us sponsored a guide dog puppy.
He was a bit of a monkey and failed first time but with some extra training wee Dudley made the grade.
We used to call him Dud but he has now earned his full name.

I was a school governor for five years. I found it interesting and rewarding, but it was during a time when there was a big shake-up in school organisation locally and we really had to fight our school's corner. It got to the point where I felt I was taking a larger share of the burden than was necessary and I resigned. The school was assured of its future by then. The card I received from the staff and pupils thanking me for my service was possibly the nicest thing I can remember.

I used to volunteer with Riding for the Disabled for a good long while. I used to volunteer my grooming services once or twice a month to local dog rescue centres too, when I lived in the Midlands. Around here, having rung and offered, they don't want to know. In fact one or two of them were quite rude to me.

The mini Kelpies are coming to Aberdeen.
At the ILPH (horse rescue) in Aboyne. One of the horses from there was the model for the Kelpies, hope to see them.

There were 2 heavy horses on Local news last night.
The mini Kelpies are 1/10th size at ILPH, Belwade Farm in Aboyne. They look impressive.

I have a lot of time for guide dogs and recovery dogs, the wife and myself do a fair bit for these..and to see a good result is quite a heart warming experience..some of the benifactors go from reclusive to outgoing ack into the comunity people ,all downto a dog and a bit of tlc

Yes, they are lovely...I have various photos of them around the area before they built the big ones.
I only live a few miles away so visit them often

Yep, animals have a sixth sense.
There was an amazing story up here a while back about an autistic boy.
His folks got a rescue cat and it dotes on the boy and follows him everywhere.
He didn't speak much but now when he gets home from school he can be heard telling his feline pal all about his day.
Something his parents never thought they'd hear.

amazing isn't it,so simple and changes a persons negative to positive..

school governor and within a month the school needed to be expanded and there was dealing with contractors etc which i got very hands on with as its what i do for a day job.
tin rattler for the RNLI - please guys put a squid in the tin this Mayday weekend. train one save many.

My last German Shepherd dog was like that with my son who has Aspergers.
When my son would get upset and start lashing out, the dog would sit quietly beside him until he was calm - he would sometimes get a smack, and we'd try and move him away but he refused to budge from my sons side. If my son moved, the dog moved.
They were best buddies and my sons meltdowns became more infrequent as the years went by.
We had him since my son was born, until he was 13.
