Volunteering since I left Skool

I'm not sure if it counts as voluntary, but I teach kids art at a community centre: I get life drawing classes for free which would normally be £20 a pop so I suppose it's more of a barter than a voluntary position.

One of the girls I teach is supremely talented and will soon be far beyond my limited coaching abilities. She's only eleven and I hope she goes on to great things.

I qualified with PADI as it can be done in 4 days in the UK ( TBF if you use a BSAC School you can do it in similar ) then I dived with internet buddies for a few months and realised i needed to join a club. Glad i did as i learned a LOT. annoyed as this weekend was sposed to be in Plymuff but the wind forecast was 5s gusting6/7 which makes it interesting getting out of the water into the RIB

the cycling helps as my air consumption has dropped to around 15Lpm down from 35 when i started .

that's the one that's hard for a lot of people to learn. I enjoy teaching compass work as it keeps me sharp ! son is fairly good with a map now and can find his position fairly quickly - was good to see him do it on Snowdon at easter.

Quite a while ago you were on about doing your open water and advanced o/w. Thought you were still with the dark side

I did them before I restarted cycling ! 2004.

am only logging dives again as i need to for Advanced then FCD.

Variously over the years, I have taught advanced level driving on a voluntary basis for both IAM and RoSPA for the best part of 20 years, until I quit to go off and cycle around...
I used to work in Oxfam for a while whilst at uni, then stopped.
Then I gave up my free time to do DoE for 7 years and a survival weekend once a year. It was a case of if I didn't go, then the girls could not attend at all... and there were plenty of weekends given up with that at all levels of DoE given that the entire year of students had to do bronze and the survival weekend, as well as all new starters to the school who came in after the 3rd form, so rather a lot of students each year!

Now, I don't do anything, but given that state of my back at the moment, it is probably a good thing that not too many people were relying on me...

I have spent the last 22 years as a Boys Brigade officer with my church Company although I may need to go on to the Battalion reserve list soon as the Company's Junior and Company section boy numbers are close to none existent. I am also my Church's senior sound engineer which I have been doing for about the same time.

Many years ago in Belfast I was in the IVS ( CSV over here) I was 18/19 at the time, we use to organise work camps where teenagers from both sides of the devide would travel together, integrate and do some charity work locally wherever we where. We would then organise follow up weekends back in NI.

Riding for the disabled at school. Started for the horses then loved the kids as well.
Taught dog agility for about ten years.
Parent helper for our cub pack. I take my hat off to the leaders. It is indeed a second, unpaid job.
My company gives us half a day off a month to volunteer so I spend it with a local conservation group bringing an unloved part of the local park back into use.

Does your Cub pack Leader know about this? It can count towards the Cubs Environmental Partnership Award if they get involved.
