Daft place to put this thread wasn't it! SC+P posters all have valid political opinions!

Mods, perhaps move this to Cafe for a broader reach?

I think it's possible to have political views, and yet be totally sick of the options at the ballot box.

Ive always thought a none-of-the-above option should appear on every ballot paper... if it tops the poll the election must be re-run and the bottom candidate eliminated on each re-run.
Wouldn't it be fairer if all the candidates who had stood were eliminated? The vote would have been "None of the above" after all.

OK, we'll give it a go, in the interests of getting wider opinions.

So, folks, please try to keep it cafe-like...

(And in general, if you want to ask the mods something, best to report the post and put your request in that way - I only saw this because I happened to be browsing the thread).

Wouldn't it be better to be the "None of the Above" candidate.
There has been a One Of The Above tried standing in local elections. Blocked due to the confusion it would have caused. He would also have been at the bottom of the ballot paper.

Why bother having to cast their vote? Just allocate the uncast votes to the SMP. They can still then legitimately lay claim to the Slient Majority title.

Remember this isn't a political movement [yet]... it's only to guage the level of support from the disenfranchised or apolitical who up to now have seen no point in getting involved.

Those of you with strong party opinions, and affiliations, already have the drive and commitment to vote.

Starting off just to see what level to pitch it, to see if it could gain momentum before Christmas to assess the degree of dissatisfaction. Ideally starting a 38 degree poll would get it in the public' eye....

Getting 100,000 signed up with 38 degrees would start it off with a real purpose! Don't get side tracked by the polling day options of 'non of the above' or the merits of adapting the existing first past the post methodology or spoiling your vote as a political statement... this is different and an idea only at this stage.

Sorry Spinney, I understand what to do next time. Thanks.

What we need is to set up the opportunity to vote for the SMP in every single constituency in the UK.

If we start now we have enough time to make it work.

Every constituency has a 'silent majority'- those people fed up with, or disenfranchised by, the political choice they have which makes them apathetic about voting.

Well, here it is, theSMP, 'the Silent Majority Party'.... a chance for every person on the electoral roll, who is sick and tired of the system, to have a voice and a vote.

If people think it's a good idea we can get a poll on 38 Degrees or similar to go national before Christmas.... then we have political clout to do something positive. Are you in?

I CBA.

Don't do it through 38degrees if you want it to have any credibility at all. Most of their polls are either deliberately misleading or so utterly ill-informed you want to hit your head on your desk.

You know you have an idea at 3 o'clock in the morning that seem brilliant, and then you talk to people and they smile politely and wander off, sometimes sideways, maintaining eye contact.... this is clearly one of them!
