Wahoo trainer keeps creaking

Hi,

My wahoo trainer creaks badly when I lean slightly left or right and only starts creaking half hour into the ride. Really annoying. Everything is tight. Should I put some wd40 in the holding nuts or whatever they are called? Sorry if this is an amateur silly question. I took a short mp4 video but it won't upload.

I had a similar problem with my Neo, it was the casing creaking as the trainer moved from side to side. I dribbled GT85 along the seams of the casing and it quietened it down for a few weeks, but then it returned.

Since then, I found a more permanent cure......turning the volume up on my ear buds

WD do a dry PTFE spray which is excellent. It has a solvent which penetrates then evaporates completely leaving a coating of PTFE. It’s ideal for almost everything as it doesn’t leave a sticky film.

That's interesting. I have some GT85 or WD40. Is that the same thing? So spray it inside the 'holding' nuts on the trainer?

No, it's not the same. PTFE ( Teflon ) is both hydrophobic and one of the slippiest substances known. The can has an ingenious built in nozzle that's really well thought out.

I'm not familiar with how your trainer is constructed to be honest. But the Neo is made of two halves that are screwed together, so there is a vertical joining seam around the whole circumference. So, I just applied a small amount at the top edge of the seam and let it run down the seam on either side of the casing.

But don't go to berserk as you don't really want it to enter the casing where the electronic circuity is!

I would use the nozzle and spray any place where two surfaces join.
I went round the house and garden lubricating locks, door catches, hinges etc.

My trainer is a wahoo kickr snap. Here's a picture of one. So I'm thinking of just spraying it in the holes where I have circled yellow? That's the only place where the bike meets the trainer apart from the roller.

Ah.....in which case, I would tend to go for a light grease, even Vasoline would probably help?

I will try the vaseline later to see if it helps. Thinking it might be bit 'mucky' compared to that wd-40 dry lube (a tenner a spray as well??) but if it helps then I will know that is the problem right?

I use the same trainer and haven't encountered this issue, or heard any other complaints. Are you sure it's the trainer rather than the bike? Could you put a different bike in the trainer to confirm one way or the other?

If it is the trainer - which part of the trainer is squeaking? I'd think it could at least as likely be squeaking at the hinge on each leg rather than at the clamps?

It is expensive, ( I paid about eight quid from Screwfix ) but it is very good. I did all of the locks, the sliding mechanisms on the house windows, the locking mechanism on the edges of the Patio doors, etc.
