The offer has been popular but has been criticised by some existing customers who have suggested that it is attracting the "wrong type" of shopper to the store.

Oh dear that means me then.i have a coffee card and i use it a couple of times per week,i buy a bun or a cookie though.

this has even been brought to Mr Cameron's notice, wow.

So are YOU the wrong type of shopper.Or don't you care as long as you get a warm drink.

I'm certainly a rum sort.

There's no such thing as the wrong sort of shopper if they are spending money in the store. I once worked for a large retail furniture company and the area manager was asked by my store manager if it was OK for customers to bring their dogs into the store with them.
'They can bring a bloody horse in with them if they're spending money' was the pithy answer.

Don't forget you can use a John Lewis Card (separate card) to get a coffee and a cake once a month...

I've yet to collect a free coffee on any of my visits since its introduction.

The 'free' Waitrose coffee machine is the exactly the same as the one in the cafe 200 yards away wher it costs £2.40 for a 'normal' coffee and £2.80 for a cafe latte... no brainer, unless you buy something else.
