I am getting good wear out of some Clarks brown leather shoes and desert boots. Also good experience with Ecco.
I dont think you should take shoe recomendations from people with different feet to you.

Merrell or Saloman for me. The sweet spot between quality and price.

Never tried and walking boot/-shoe type Skechers, but their shoes are lovely so I can quite believe the right pair would be up to the job.

Beware the cheapest Salomon shoes I brought were complete junk not enough cushioning for running or even walking avoid.

If you're not going anywhere exciting don't overthink it.

Decathlete do some decent walking shoes from £20.

Workwear places do rugged footwear for not a huge amount.

I'd not get Salomon shoes again. Not as durable as cheap shoes in my experience.

If you are going off the track then get some decent leather walking boots from a proper outdoors shop. Expensive but decent boots will last a long time.

I do a lot of dog walking but I save the walking boots for proper countryside walking where I want the ankle protection and grip.

Oboz.

I bought a pair and was so impressed I now use them as my go-to daily shoe as well. Low and mid ankle heights. Very comfy, good tread and rigid sole. Waterproof too.
One pair came from Rohan but my other pair were mail order from an outdoor retailer Nevisport

Agree - I will never buy Salomon shoes ever again. I had a pair of Xa Pro 3D v8 GTX which wore the tread flat in a matter of weeks, and completely disintegrated a couple of months later. They’re supposed to be top of their range and made for anything - but couldn’t cope with walks across simple fields. Rubbish!

I’ve yet to find a brand I could recommend. Columbia are head of the pack so far for me, but did wear out after about a year. Keen are next on the list to try

This is a good example of how experiences differ.
I have had three pairs (still have two) of Salomon, all been excellent for durability and wear.

A lot of it is about what works for you. My feet are very tolerant of different walking boot shapes, Ms P. needs to take a lot of care over choosing and has to get a specialist fitting (even then it doesn't always work out). For the last four years I've had some Meindl boots which have worked well for me, they are lightweight fabric type boots. I have had leather ones in the past (generally more waterproof so better for walking in boggy areas). Way back I walked a lot with budget Hi-Tec boots from Millets (you can still get them). Also do a fair bit of walking wearing whatever trainers I have at the time- did 12 miles along the canal between tube stations last weekend.
Much like saddles tbh, what suits one probably won't suit another...
Saddles are a good analogy. I just changed a nice tan Brooks on my Surly for the stock saddle that came with it. It's much better. I have ridden for hours on the Brooks without issue, but the plastic saddle I have on there is immediately more comfortable to me.

Keen, Teva and Oboz are all good.

I cannot, however, agree with you re Salomon.

We have 3 pairs currently on the go in our house (1 pair Mrs SD and 2 pairs me) and they have been hammered on long day treks in our local (Cumbrian) mountains including a lot of high-grade rock scambling.

They are still going strong - their predecessors (cannot remember how many pairs) were similarly durable.

Are you sure they were not knock-offs?

I found these in Lidl today.
I’m sure they are high quality.

Would they be of use? 😁

I’ve had several pairs of Salomon trail shoes, very comfortable.
The Salomon walking boots were not as good and the soles were very slippery, no use in rain or snow!
The replacement North Face boots are very comfortable with a good grip and waterproof.
