Wallander the Swedish versions are great. Watching the Films on BBC4 at the moment with R. Lassgard, which are good also.
I think the author Henning Mankell wrote specially for the Swedish tv versions.
Another foreign detective, Inspector Montalbanmo (Italian) was on this week.
The best tv I watched over Christmas was foreign!

I think the author Henning Mankell wrote specially for the Swedish tv versions.

There's a spin off series called where the plots are approved by Mankell but not, I believe, written by him. The Wallander concerned is IMO not as good as Mr Lassgard. As far as I'm aware the books were written purely as novels.

Incidentally has the most recent Wallander story been released in the UK yet? The one about the retired submarine captain who goes missing? I've not finished it yet but it's good.

I'd love to learn Cloggy. I can bodge read something like the front page of the Volkskraant (sp?) because Cloggy seems to be a half way point between English and German. I love how it sounds too.

At some point around Emden platt turns into the German version of Friesian (as opposed to the Dutch version). Friesian is the closest living relative of English: have a look at the Wikipedia pages in that language.
