My dear lady wife is addicted to detective series although she is quite sane in most other respects.
I am presently vicariously watching the miserable Swede as we speak, so to speak
I feel like shaking Kenneth by the shoulders and telling him to cheer up, FFS.

Have you ever experienced deja vu ;)

I really enjoyed the acting and the scenery in the first series, but it's not exactly cheerful.

Oh, I feel your pain, Jane seems to think it wonderful as well, I've sat through nearly two episodes and it's bleak on top of bleak. Having never been to Sweden I have no idea if it is an accurate depiction, I'd like to think not.

Ha. I feel the warmth of a fellow traveller. Cheers, MacB!

The image of Abba, blonde gorgeous women, strong clear eyed men is taking a battering and doing the Swedish travel industry irreperable damage!

We've not bothered with the Brannagh reworking, as we kinda liked the original swedish version sometimes shown on BBC4

Saw an interview with Benny from ABBA over Christmas and he was saying that Scandanavian people are melancholy people, and sadness is a positive thing - they enjoy a certain kind of sadness.

I know exactly what he means, but that's probably due to all the Viking blood coursing through my veins.

I thought you were a Goth, not a Viking, Baggy.

Nothing wrong with a bit of melanchony, I can handle a lot more of that than excessively cheerful people. But this is something else, when he was diagnosed with diabetes I found myself hoping it would be something far more serious, and fast acting. Then I remembered that I didn't have to watch so walked away:biggrin:

I agree with Sheddy. I much prefer the Swedish Version, shown on BBC3.

For the benefit of Mr ThreeBikesMcGinty, (who has been to South America , and of which I am very jealous) I have been to Sweden er... twice.

I'm with Sheddy and Speicher in preferring the Swedish version - made all the more poignant by the suicide of the young woman who played Linda.

The Babe tells me that the big difference is that the Swedish series was shot on film and the home-grown version was shot on HD. HD gives us the Branagh stubble in glorious detail, but film throws the light around a bit more, giving the general gloom a kind of luminescence.
