I've been doing some research into what's going to be available for me to upgrade in 4 months time that fulfill both criteria in the topic title... thought I might share...

Motorola Defy+ - http://www.gsmarena...._defy+-4098.php
Successor to the Defy... the only shortcomings with the original were short battery life (smartphone? no surprise!) and no-one really liked the MotoBlur social networking integration. Bigger battery in the Defy+ (comparison here) and since Google are bidding for Motorola Mobile, something might be done about it's front end.
This is my current favourite.

Samsung Galaxy XCover - http://www.gsmarena....xcover-4091.php
I've been a Samsung fanboi for aaaaaages and have been hoping that they would release something along these lines for a while - IT WILL BE MINE. However, looking at the specs it falls short of the Defy+ in power, memory and camera quality. Shame.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Active - http://www.gsmarena....active-3998.php
Compares quite favourably (on paper) with the Defy+, but its...er...ugly.

If none of the above float your boat, you could go all GI JOE and import the Casio Commando from the US

Damn, the Sony Ericsson would have suited me, except for the camera.
I have just upgraded to the Xperia Arc and it is poor!

I've had a Defy for three months and its pretty good, only problem is the FM radio has a bug that makes it impossible to turn off without turning the phone off! There's another radio software available for the Droid which works on the Defy though which is better.
Doesn't really look like much difference between the Defy and Defy + looking at that spec sheet.
I got my Defy for £15 per month on T Mobile
