Do you have a desire for something that's totally impractical and bicycle related?

Yeah, loads. We have a new cycle to work scheme at work, and I've finally been able to work out exactly what I'll save if I use it to buy a new bike. The one I have is perfectly acceptable, but I just want one. The main problem is, I'm think I may end up looking like one of these old guys in a sports car driving it at 30 mph.

That reminds me of my first grown up bike when I was thirteen, only mine was single speed. It was branded Minerva and according to the shop owner (Who actually owned the bike himself) it was Italian. Probably weighed a ton and rode like it, but what fond memories it brings back as it started me on a lifetime of cycling.

I'm considering selling all my bikes (all bar 1 x MTB) and buying just that model. Simplify my cycling life.

I've seen you post that before. I can see where you're coming from, but as the owner of an 8 speed Sovereign, I'd suggest you look carefully at the weight and gearing of the 3 speed version before committing. I love my Pashley (I rode it this evening in the rain) but it's something you buy with your heart rather than your head. It's nice to have something else as well.

I have philosophy that life would be very boring if you only ever bought stuff that you needed.

Sometimes you need spend on yourself for no reason whatsoever.

How practical is the gearing on the 8 speed?
