I have had an ongoing problem trying to get a number transferred from my ex company mobile to a PAYG sim card. After weeks of visits to the operator's shop I looked up the email of the CEO here http://www.ceoemail.com

A simple polite email* and phone calls, texts and emails started pinging in from the "Directors' Office". Quite likely a subset of better politer and less "computer says no" corner of the call centre, but this has kick started it. Daily calls to try and resolve....

*keep it very brief, very to the point. Humour them.

I was under the impression that PAYG and contract numbers where not interchangeable, when I switched to contract I was told I couldn't take my PAYG number anyways.

Not sure I would publish my mobile number either, unless you want #Potsy stalking you :P

i tried to cut and paste the text, then deleted it. But it appeared. So I now edited it and hopefully it has gone.

And yes you can port from contract to PAYG. But based on my experience I would have been better going to a different netwrok completely as the VF systems seemed to struggle

Just looked at the Ryanair site and had to laugh out loud. If you want to book by phone it is a quid a minute (they don't want you to, so fair enough) but if you want to complain about the premium rate number you have to call a premium rate number to complain! Excellent!

Ryanair Priority Assistance
If you have problems using the Ryanair website or need assistance when booking online and would like to speak to a Ryanair agent you can call on the following phone number:

0905 566 0000 - £1.00 per minute
Calls from mobiles and other networks may cost more.

Do you have a complaint regarding our premium rate number - click here
Our customer service number for complaints regarding our Premium Rate number is as follows 0844 2098715, £0.05 per minute.

If I have reason to complain to a company I always write to the chairman, writing the words chairman's complaint on both the letter and the envelope this has in over 30 years never failed to get a rapid responce. In some cases such as Morrisons I have even received back a hand written letter from the chairman himself.

With Google etc. it is very easy to get the correct name and address you require, try it sometime it really does work.

As well as complaining I will also put something in writing to the top of a company when I receive service from an employee over and above what I expected. This in the hope the employee will get noticed and rewarded. This also works.

I switched from contract to payg and back to contract again. Always had the same number.

I was told that once too, then the next phone shop I went in I mentioned it and the guy in there told me it was rubbish. He said all you need to do is ring up your provider and request your 'pac' code from them. Once you have that you can provide it to any new provider and they will let the number across. The old provider may not issue you a new one free of charge, but if course if you are out of contract and planning to cancel it anyway, so cares!

After the advice I went with his deal, did what he told me to on the phone in front of him, and hey presto, number was ported across there and then.

No idea if things have changed since as this was over five years ago...
