I'm not sure that "anti-obesity' is a marketable concept.

To me there's elements of loathing and superiority being meted out by any user of the phrase.

Whats the prime motivation of the jersey? Strikes me that there are proably two 'issues'.

1. To change the attitude of other people to obese people (make them more supportive than condemming)

and/or

2. To motivate obese people to lose weight.

A cycling jersey is a relatively small canvas, so I suspect you need to tackle one message at a time - one message per jersey design. Make images bold, and any text short and punchy. Very few people will have time to read a complicated message on a jersey. Even pro jerseys with dozens of adverts on work because they conform to a design that is easily (nay, instantly) recognisable to followers.

If you're aiming the message at the wearer (in a self esteem boosting way), then you can perhaps allow for more detail, because the wearer knows what it says anyway.

I think for a prime example of designs that work fast, and make an impact, you should look at Foska's designs. See how they use big bold images, or images that are so ingrained into our psyche (like Marmite), that one only has to catch a glimpse to recognise them.

Maybe the first step is to think of a slogan - short and punchy, then work a design round it?

How about, if you don't mind the F word: I WAS FAT NOW I'M NOT printed on a jersey - first three words bigger than the second, something like:

I WAS
FAT

NOW I'M
NOT

or

NOW I'M
FAT

SOON I
WON'T BE

The key to both being that if you're wearing the jersey on a bike, then the clue as to 'why' the first and second statements differ is the very fact that you're on the bike. To really ram that home, stick a little cycle symbol between the two statements.

(Actually, that does help to tackle both issues, I guess, it shows obese people doing something about it, which improves the general level of support and sympathy)

Underneath, you'd have your web or blog address, for anyone who really wanted too take notice.

Ok, this is just hypothetical, and sorry if I don't word this sensitively, but I imagine when you were still pretty heavy, but had lost a lot of weight, you were fustrated at still being labelled as fat when you'd acheived so much....I bet sometimes you get the eyes from people and you could imagine them thinking "what is he doing on a bike" etc etc, which makes you desperatly want to tell them how much you have lost - what you have acheived....but you can't always tell everybody....so why not let the jersey tell these people for you? Perhaps have a few different jersey's that have "1/2 STONE LOST" and "1 STONE LOST" printed on the back......or even a jersey with a scale on the back which people mark their progress on with a permanent marker pen.

This would act as a self motivator.....like any chart would, except it's also on display to others, instantly conveying the journey/struggle the rider is on.

Not at all what its for, think Livestrong and self empowerment

I'd hazard a guess you've never felt that the second post on this thread was aimed at you, then?

How about "Yes, I know I could lose weight. But that's my business, not yours."

You would be wrong there.

Ideas wise I know what the Jersey needs to say, I just need a designer to help me out

I will wear it in races and interviews this year, I was at one point 40 stone and thought to myself, **** I wish I could lose weight, I wish I could work out, but I cant, Im too fat, there's not much point in eating less as I am passed the point of no return, however I saw a guy lose 200 pound by doing just that, SHOWING ME that it could be done.

There are different types of obese people out there, I am trying to reach out to the type that want to change but dont think they can or that it will work for them, is that such a bad thing ?

As for your second point, thats NOT the type of obese people I am trying to reach out to.....

Fair enough - my mistake. If I were in your position I'd have jumped down the throat of whoever that was. And congratulations on your mind-boggling achievement. I wish I had your single-mindedness.

There is rather a large overlap between the different "types". My key message would have to be "it's rather more complex than you think it is."

I actually quite like that

"Once you accept you made yourself fat you can see you have the ability to make yourself thin"

But I cannot help but think that any slogan on a tee shirt is bound to fail:
On a thin person it is smug
On a fat person it is pointless
= lose / lose situation

Even if you have lost vast amounts of weight, the fatty will not know that and will just see a thin person.
