Puzzle game procrastinator!
Shouldn't you be using HDMI for that?

Which model xps laptop is it?

I found discussions about people who had managed it - for example here.

You need to connect the laptop either by VGA or HDMI - depends on the connectors on the laptop and the TV.

USB is no good as the TV won't have any software on it to read the laptop.

usb is a master slave style connection for connecting peripherals, the tv is the master not the slave and you're meant to
connect usb storage probably to use it as a pvr.
Which model of tv and which model of laptop specifically as you may need just an hdmi cable or an audio cable
to connect the audio out to the tv and either an hdmi cable or vga cable depending on what the external monitor connector
is on your laptop.

ha..well I have a picture on the laptop and my tv via hdmi.....works fine......only now my power amp isn't getting any audio signal......I took out th evirgin box and just put the hdmi cable direct into the tv....so have audio from th eonboard tv speakers...just not through the earthquake producing poweramp and speakers...like I used to....

...I need to get those speakers back up and running...my neighbour is so used to moaning ...I don't want to disappoint her:whistle:

This is what I have got:

I disconnected the virgin box and put laptop directly into the HDMI 3 on the TV. I have the TV set to HDMI 3.
The audio does come out of the built in TV speakers, but not the Power amp/speakers (which it did before I removed the virgin box)

Which connectors is the power amp attached to?

I have a similar set-up, except that my only HDMI input normally has a freesat+ box feeding it, and I get audio for my external amp from two phono sockets next to the SCART connectors. When selected the SCART my DVD uses also provides audio out of those.

For my laptop I use the VGA input and an associated audio input, and must admit to issues with sound to the external amp with that. For some reason the TV sound output is stupidly low level, so when streaming films or on-demand services I take the sound feed directly from the laptop.

Hi..

The amp is connected to the tv via phono cable from the line out phono on the tv t to the line in phono on my amp.

I went to settings on the virgin box as it prompted me to switch from scart to hdmi...and swirched to hdmi.

Nothing changed. I can still see the laptop on the tv via the hdmi ..I can hear it thru the small in built tv speakers but not thru the power amp. The amp is on etc.

The audio cables come directly.from the tv to the power amp.
Ove defo selected correct input on amp.
