Yes I can, Yes I am, Yes I did...Repeat.
The virgin box is plugged into hdmi 1. The.laptop hdmi 3.
The virgin box has a scart cable to the tv .

I tested the power amp...on inputvselection ext 2 on the tv I hear audio through the power amp.
When watching BBC1 on tv....but not if I.watch BBC1 on the laptop.

swap the two hdmi cables round.

I'm confused ... I thought the whole point was that you scrapped the Virgin box!

If Ian's suggestion about swapping the HDMI cables round doesn't work, can't you take an audio output direct from the laptop to the amp? (If necessary, switching the sound from HDMI to the laptop audio outputs.)

swapped them...no banana....

well to my simple mind connecting the laptop audio directly to th epower amp makes sense...only I wanted to only have the one cable ...thought HDMI was supposed to be able to do it....which it does...only not to my power amp..just the tv speakers.

....blimey....oh well....ill have another try tomorrow.

why does the audio signal die to my power amp when I select hdmi as an input?

It sounds as if the TV isn't connecting decoded HDMI sound to the analogue sound outputs of the TV.

On the strength of this thread I've had a play with mine. It doesn't either. The reason I get sound to my amp appears to be that the Freesat+ HD box also has a SCART connection to the TV (not sure why I've left it there - legacy from pre HD days). The SCART connection is supplying the sound to the connections for the amp. The SCART switching signal still grabs all of the analogue signal chain in the TV while the TV is showing the pictures and sound from the HDMI feed.

I don't have a drawing of the signal chain for the TV, but the HDMI bit must be last. The VGA video, like the HDMI video, doesn't appear on the SCART outputs, BUT the sound connection for the VGA input does go to the TV audio out when selected, so I don't get your problem, as I use VGA for watching from the laptop.

Your problem may be a mimic of this, in which case the answer is, as suggested above, to feed the amp from the laptop directly from cable or bluetooth.
