My old man had a Berlingo van, but when change came, he got the car version and took out the seats. He'd retired but did a bit of part time gardening for friends for beer money just to keep busy.

Removing rear seats, may invalidate insurance - change of usage.

Almost. Its made from galvanised base stock, so when a panel is cut out the edges are exposed, which is then handy for welding.

But aye, as close to galvanised as fudge is to swearing.

Not sure if already mentioned but would normal car insurance cover the carrying of trade tools ?

Simple answer is no…

Car insurance covers the car and person in the car for the type of insurance in act.

There are different classes of business insurance too. For those often on the road carrying more than a laptop or phone (class 1), the class required could be class 3 as that covers “light goods” or if it’s to carry on a trade then it’s a separate policy all together.

There is also the need to consider insuring the tools separately as they wouldn’t be covered under standard insurance in the event of loss/damage.

Employers are mandated to move to ULEV by 2035, 80% of fleet by 2030.
