Anything here to suit?

I'm not too keen on the business model, and I don't have much faith in their customer service.

Might be OK to use for a cheap gadget.

Thanks - I'll bear that in mind. There are a couple there that would suit.
I'd rather buy from someone I 'know' on cyclechat if poss, though.
(And not too keen on using PayPal, even just the credit card version).

But I can hold the thing in one hand and just need to twitch my thumb to turn the page, I don't need to move a finger over the screen I'm reading from.
But I suppose you get used to whatever version you have quite quickly.

Lovely Wife and I both have Paperwhites that replaced the previous 'button' versions that we had.

She can use hers single handed - I can't but tbh I always used the 'button' jobbie with two hands so haven't tried very hard.

Re Paperwhite - the screen is much better than the old button type. The built in backlight is superb (easy to read in bed without a light on if your partner is asleep). It does not in any way detract from the original Kindle non-computer screen appearance. It is simply the same but brighter (variable too).

Get the Paperwhite!

You can't have mine, 'cos I still prefer it as my summer kindle - it's better to read when there's decent light around, and the battery lasts from about March to August on a charge. It's resting now, because my other Kindle is better when the light gets iffy. (Even if the battery life sucks by comparison.)

Paypal's not for me, either.

We have quite a few of this type of pawn shop in the North East, partly because much of the area is relatively poor.

Were I to buy anything from them, it would only be something cheap, and I would use folding money.

Our Paperwhites last miles longer than our old ones - not that they didn't last ages too. Reads the same in the sun too.

I was talking bout my Kindle Fire, which is a tablet, so you can read it when there's no light at all. But the battery only lasts a few hours, rather than weeks.

Just wondering if anyone has one of the more basic kindles with buttons at the sides for page turns. OH has decided he'd quite like a Kindle for use on holiday, but the only ones you can buy new now are touch-screen ones and he doesn't fancy those.
So if you've got one of the older ones gathering dust somewhere and want to get rid of it...

(All this is assuming you can reregister the thing - I'm only after the hardware, not someone else's content.)
I have such a thing that I don't need. Let me know if you are interested.

I'll PM you...

After 5 years, much travelling and reading my Kindle Keyboard is now dead. Was working in the immigration queue (a good hour there) but alas not by the time I was intending to settle down with a cold beer next to the pool. Screen is cracked internally (nothing on the bit I can touch) and as the screensavers update everytime its turned on/off in now looks like a patchwork quilt.
I feel a bit lost without it. I've also resisted a touchscreen version, everything after the keyboard version has had one up to the newer Voyager. Don't think it's worth the extra for 3G though. In 5 years I've only ever used it a handful of times.

You can actually get replacement screens, been meaning to do that for mine, but it is approaching the cost of a s/h one. Both mine have been second hand & work well, tho' current one's screen is a bit scratched.

It's a thought though hardly seems worth it really. The lack of page turn buttons was putting me off a newer one. I might just 'borrow' my daughters, in the same way she has 'borrowed' my LG tablet. There is supposed to be a new version of the Voyager appearing so I'll hang on and see what that brings, Would need a new cover as its smaller - I'll miss my nice hessian one.

Basic kindle batteries last weeks only if you read them for about half an hour a day. I read a lot more than that!

I'd echo this, mine is fine one handed & you can turn the page on screen just by tapping the screen edge just like a virtual button, no big swipe gestures needed.

The paper white screen makes the kindle just so much more versatile and a very literal read anywhere device. +1 to in bed lights out with partner asleep, also sat on a park bench enjoying a gloriously sunny day ......

I traded up from a very basic nook that had no screen light and buttons to turn the pages, as a piece of hardware it looked and acted just as the basic kindle, the ease of use of the paperwhite is so much better.

Mine was £70 2nd hand from CEX with a guarantee. Not a problem at all with it.
