I'd still keep it as a geared bike, though.

O somehow missed this post! Thanks for the link, can't go wrong with a bit of Sheldon..

Ha I was thinking the same thing - reusing a sprocket from the cassettex just have to check it hasn't worn out., but I'm guessing that wouldn't matter if I decide to use the same chain...

Forgot to say, if it is a screw on hub you're replacing, you can also adjust the chainline by putting an old style bottom bracket lock ring between hub and sprocket. The thread's the same.
