My 13 yr old son only ever used his bike for his paper round and go to round to his mates. He then discovered girls, booze, possibly drugs [don't like to think about it] and music. He is now in his eary thirties and for the last five years he has been knocking on my door to go out on bike rides every time he is off work. As a father of four I've learnt that it's good to let them go off and do their own thing away from Know nothing/boring parents. They eventually make their way back. My lot are never off the step thse days.

I volunteered as tail runner at our local parkrun a few weeks ago.

About a third of the way round there was a bloke in his thirties with a lad who was about nine or ten. The kid obviously didn't want to be there, but his dad kept pushing him with promises of, "come on, do it today and you never have to do it again."

A few minutes later he finally gave in and they turned back, I doubt we'll be seeing them again.

My lad was the same, we used to go out every weekend until he discovered video games, I'll not push it but the bike's still sat there if ever he changes his mind.
