There's some great photos in that link! Like the one where the tree was hit and the roots got so hot it killed the grass above them... and the strange pattern in the grass of a golf course after a lightning strike.

That's actually not lightning. It's footage of blasting to deepen a channel in Finland. The line of light on the opposite shore is the det cord going off.

Pity the poor fish, eh? Must have got the shock of their lives. Mind you they would have forgotten it 10 seconds later... (the ones that were still alive).

Maybe as the roots are connected then the burn followed that route . but then i would expect the whole tree/s to die off .

Sometimes it does. If it takes enough of the discharge, a lot of the sap turns to steam and the tree will, quite literally, explode. Or be left as a burning-for-days hulk.
