I dunno: a 531 frame from a decent make plus, I assume, a good few re-usable bits; all bar the brakes at first sight. The brooks alone would fetch £25 or £30, maybe tenner for the rack. Surely the rest is worth £50?

It's a buyers market and the 'buyer' for this bike hasn't seen it, wants something else or its just the wrong size etc.

The frame has pretty Haden lugs but pressed dropouts. This was essentially the cheapest frame Mercian made.

Also, who ends their listing at 5.30 on a Tuesday? And, classy as it is to refer to it as a "Mercian Touring Cycle" in the title, I suspect something along the lines of "Vintage Mercian Touring Bike - 531, Suntour, Brooks" might have got picked up a bit more by searchers.

Possibly, I’m looking for a project, but I’m not sure if it’s the right size. It is too far away though.

If it had been cleaned it might have attracted some buyers . I am put off by the I couldn't care less attitude I'll just stick it on and it will sell!
The pros for me are the large flange hubs and the TA triple clanger but are outweighed by the distance , the dirt , size and colour .

It wouldn't have to be a complete respray .
My brother had a 1960's Carlton Catalina which was mainly black but it had metallic blue faded banding on the seat tube , chromed forks with metallic blue tops which looked quite attractive. The Raleigh Sprint looks attractive in its black and gold . It just needs a bit of some colour or chrome to break it up a bit .
