Good Housekeeping mag had an item about this very subject recently.

Using fabric conditioners in a towel wash reduces their drying effectiveness, apparently. So they smell nice (???) but leave you less dry.

Your choice

It is recommended to use a tumble drier for towels - and if you do a hot cycle, they come up all nice and fluffy .

I wondered why I was all puffed out after doing a hot cycle.B)

It's because you have been for a fast spin, and not taken a tumble.

Hang you whites out to dry and let the sunshine and fresh air do the rest.

PS. I use Waitrose liquid on 40 degrees for most things!

I use Clearspring laundry liquid - maybe we're not very dirty, but I find it works well. If stuff is particularly unpleasant (damp towel that's been under the bed for a week anyone?) I run the machine at 60 instead of 40, job's a goodun.
I am horribly sensitive to detergents, so avoid the big brands like the plague.

I use that Clearspring liquid, smells lovely. (Ecovers not bad either) I too am sensitive to the 'normal' detergents, end up sneezing or my skin comes up in a rash.

Has anyone used the magnoballs (supposed to activate the water/soap ? Seems to work) in the wash too? You can use up to half the normal dose of powder/liquid and it thrashes your clothes in the drum too, bit like the oldie stylie thrashing them on the rocks by the river. HALF the dose! work that out over a year! I've been using the same on for 3 years & got Clean clothes.
