Any news on the bike?

All heart! Misses said the front was collapsed? maybe broken forks I guess? She heard the crash from inside the house so must have hit hard. The car owner didn't even come out the house and the police asked if he wanted to check his car for damage and apparently said don't worry about it.

She did have a look as she knew I'd ask what bike it was ;-) although she can't remember said it began with S - and he said it was £1k - I asked specialized and she wasn't sure...

Any Idea how it happened ?

Motorist was adamant she hadn't knocked him off which it what it looked like at first glance, he was quite coy about saying what happened probably due to embarrassment - he said he normally rides a mountain bike and bought a road bike and was just taking it out for the first time, he said he looked up and saw the car at the last moment - maybe he was looking at the gears or his cleats, who knows...

He's a fireman who's recently moved to Bromsgrove if anyone here is in the fire service and local they might know him...

I think this post could also apply to anyone riding a £10 bike. Never ride with your head down, in a time trial a collision like this results in a ban from the sport for a while.

of course - other than I expect the cyclist would have been slightly less embarrassed if he was on a 10 year old £10 bike rather than a 1k bike on his first ride.

I wonder if he had insurance
That's gotta be devestating though.
A little over excited/exuberant about his new ride maybe...

I was surprised about the car owner, you would have thought they would have been out like a shot to check the body work (there was a thread on here somewhere about resting against a car or something when at lights)...

Lol at the title, on Tuesday night I was sitting on somebody's wheel who never saw a parked car till near the last moment; the bloke behind me got an even bigger shock  We all missed it thankfully but I lost the wheel, then I realised why maybe the sideways forcwe caused it but I snapped a front spoke and the wheel buckled slightly.

Looking at the speedo? Trying to get in/out of those funny clip in pedal thingies all the pros on the telly use?

Hope he mends well and it hasn't put him off cycling!

In case you did not mean it with humour, which I am sure you did, here goes.

Why would trying to get unclipped take you into the back of a parked car at speed, surely you would only be unclipping at a slow speed.

Funny enough it is only on this forum I have ever come across people who cannot get unclipped, maybe I need to get out more. Or is just all the people I ride with are extremely skilled clever people with some control on their limbs.
