I always wondered if a fire extinguisher would have a similar effect. A Co2 one in particular might come in handy in such circumstances.

A taxi driver I know, keeps a 4-D Maglite in a clip on the centre console of his car.................. just in case of breakdowns, of course........

The shopkeeper is very short sighted and we should feel sorry for the poor blokes Missus. She will go hunting for the WD40 to lube a squeaky hinge, and end up firing a shotgun at it.
