Awwww, that really pulls at the heart-strings. I hope that you manage to find homes for the dogs. I fell in love with Ellie  but we are not in a position to have a dog (even if Mr S agreed, which he doesn't!).

I didn't realise that the initial 'donation' is s high. I understand the reason, and also the argument that you probably can't afford to keep a dog if you can't find the initial donation but it does seem to be denying some of the dogs the chance of a home. I would be prepared to doneate a tenner towards the £200 if there was someone who could provide a home but not afford the initial outlay ...

This particular pound charges £60 for a dog. The dogs aren't neutered /vaxed (but are wormed/flead). They rely on the goodwill of people taking on the older /less popular dogs, some of the bigger organisations help, but selectively take the dogs they believe have the best chance of being rehomed.

I paid £70 for my old boy from the SSPCA - they'd had him in for the best part of 4 months, he wasn't neutered.

If you're paying £200/£300, then hopefully you're getting a dog whose injections are up to date and has been neutered.

I like Sparky the lurcher. I've always thought I'd like a wire haired sort of dog, being fairly wire haired myself.

Alas, in a second floor, one room flat, it's not an option just now, even if I wasn't out at work all day.

I would love to offer a dog a home. Insurance for vets etc would be in place and is affordable. I have had lurchers for many years and know what I am doing with them, although at present I am without a dog. I have looked at dog rescue homes. What I cannot afford is the 200-300 pounds "donation" these places demand. I appreciate the reason for it and I know the kennels have high costs, even more so if the dogs are "done" and microchipped. The high payment also, hopefully, stops people taking dogs on impulse. However, there must be many people willing and able to offer a good secure home to a dog but are denied because they don't have that initial wad of cash.

Our dog was an £80.00 donation, but she has her first vets appointment a week Saturday for vaccinations, healthcheck & microchipping.
3 Months after that she's in to be spayed so we're actually paying a fair bit more than we would for a pedigree puppy for a smelly old dog with a twisty tail, covered in lumps and bumps and with a completely unknown temperament

They are all beautiful and hopefully will find good loving homes soon. "Doodle" is absolutely gorgeous  Dont get me started on irresponsible idiots who aquire a dog on a whim......it is they who should be put to sleep not the unwanted outcome of their stupidity

As for people not understanding the loyalty people give to their dogs, each to their own I guess but considering you will get far more loyalty from them than from a lot of humans, I know what my choice will be

I think it is terrible that you see so many Staffs in rescue centres because some idiots get them because they think they look tough but have no interest in them when they turn out to be the friendly energetic dogs they are.

Maisey looks nice, I bet she'd love a pal. One is such an odd number !

Max is rather beautiful, and if Maisey was settled, I would've been in touch. The names even go well together

Unfortunately too, Maisey is really not well this morning, foaming at the mouth and vomiting so she's at the vets later. Another dog, this soon, just isn't an option which is a real shame as we will certainly be after a companion for her.

Very best of luck with them, if I had the time, money and space, I'd take them all!
