I used to wear shorts for cycling in all weathers when I was a teenager, but now I wear long trousers because I am fond of my knee joints! I don't want arthritis in later life, brought on by countless winters spend cycling in shorts!

There's a friend of the family who's now in his 70's, spent his whole life riding motorbikes wearing an open-face helmet, now he has serious problems with his tear ducts ...

I wore shorts last week - when I was parked up in Hyde Park there were plenty of tourists wandering up and warming themselves on my glowing legs. That's one good reason.

In this weather I wear longs, but see others in shorts. It's not uncomfortable if you are fit enough and do enough cycling to keep warm..

Perhaps they come from North Finland, or alaska (or somewhere else that has properly cold weather), and laugh in the face of our so called 'winter'.
