Weather - Wind direction?

When a weather report says, for example, a mild North-easterly wind - is that the direction the wind is travelling in, or where it is coming from?

In the above example would the wind travel bottom-left to top-right, or the other way around?

It's irrelevant.

Which ever way you ride it will be a headwind, which mysteriously has a 180 degree change of direction when you head for home.

as Keith says, it's the direction the wind comes from :thumbsup:

Think "a cold northerly" coming from the frozen north :tongue: , whereas a "balmy southerly" comes from the places where are people melting in the sunshine, like all over southern England ...

My Sunday ride to Stanhope had a disagreeable headwind.Yet on some of my route back on some more shaded uphill sections I almost instantly blew gasket. Heading higher and higher towards Stanhope was certainly a wonderful choice on a balmy hot day.
