I will be there about 6.15 as I don't finish work till 5.30.

I think the adrenalin was still pumping last night when I typed this. I'm shattered today and my legs hurt a lot.
I'm going to give this one a miss but next time definitely! (and I won't go for a ride the night before)

Here, but I'm early.

Just arrived home and seen this. Nearly did just this myself alone after work tonight but felt pooh after a rotten meeting and hassle at work. just brooding in the garden over a gin and Schweppes, now. A ride would have been a far superior tonic.
What about tomorrow (Thursday 24th)? Anyone up for a riverside ride or meet and ride in London and drinks after watching the sun go down over the river sitting on the wall outside the Angel at Rotherhithe? I may pop this up as a standalone thread.

Is the Angel at Rotherhithe the pub over the road from the ruined churchy thing - monastery, convent, abbey, whatever it is? Because if it is the one I'm thinking of, a sunset over the Thames would be very pleasant. I've no idea about the ride but I do have to pop into Decathlon tomorrow and it's only about half a mile away. Also the Dog and Bell's on the way home for me - a bike and beer friendly pub, if ever there was one.

That was a pretty cool ride, akshully.
Thanks CofG (for some reason I'd usually read that as Centre of Gravity, but never mind).
Four of us under Nelson, became an unexpected but welcome five (Hello Mistral) downstream.

Onward, apace to RP where a anticlockwise lap commenced.
Boy! It's competitive in there!!!!
I think I got called a bad word beginning with 'c' by somebody in London Dynamo kit when he passed me and I was sort of but not really going for it.
Then I stayed with him.
I don't think my move was well received.
Tant pis mon petite sange.

Sorry if I came across as being a bit anti-sosh - Much stuff going on at the mo.
Thanks again to all for the company.
A very fine evening ride.
Meeting at Trafalgar Square at 6pm outside National Gallery. Just cycling round London, enjoying the late (finally here) Summer evenings, taking nice photos of sun setting over London etc, writing poetry, hanging around with CC gang, until it gets dark. Decide where we go as London takes us - urban bleakness, forced gentility or fake wilderness - whatever.
Perfick Plan User1314. I look forward to the next one. ^_^ Next time I'll start off on the right bike - big thanks to everyone for letting me swap.

I don't think I'll go down the Mall again. What a fiasco! Avoid it like the plague until the celebrations are over.

Once off the Mall and on the right bike it was a fab ride - and we found a great spot to sit and drink tea and beers as the sun set. Lovely Jubbly! I took some pics.

Well, that was a grand ride.

I wasn't at all sure who would be there, and thought it might be just CofG and me.

I watched the world's worst buskers at Trafalgar Square till first Mice, then User10571, then CofG (late ;) ), then........no one else arrived.

Off we rode, down The Mall. Big mistake. It's all messed up for Her Man's do.

But we got to Embankment and marvelled at the massive crowd of cylists sweeping past in front of us.

We joined the flow, and, barring a couple of punishment passes, the ride was smooth.

I realised that the person at the front didn't know the way through to Putney Bridge. So I took the lead for a while.

Then, rather than take my usual cut through back streets, we went zipping along Lower Richmond Road, which had been resurfaced (for us? How kind!).

Into the Park, and we pulled into the cafe car park to reassemble. But we set off the other way, and split up after Richmond Gate. I stopped at Ham Gate to call Butterfly, and CofG and Mice decided to go up the middle road. This left me the last to go over the hill.

On the way back to Roehampton Gate, I was passed by a couple of the Dynamo, who then slowed down in front of me. I naturally held their wheel, but it was a while before they noticed. Then I overtook them to turn into the car park.

There were an awful lot of Dynamo in the Park, so it's not surprising we saw some really poor or annoying behaviour, but the majority were fine.

When I rolled in at last, folk were ready to go to the pub. I established that Butterfly was at the other gate. We rode across to the pub, where we were served by the world's slowest barman.

But that didn't matter. We had a lovely evening to enjoy as we sipped our tea, Pimms, and cider.

Then back through the park in the darkening light, seeing many deer, including a dark grey faun.

We had said goodbye and thanks to CofG as we entered the park, and escorted Mice across, before heading over past the ballet school on the way home.

This is when I like Richmond Park best - when the cars are shut out, and the bikes can ride in peace.

The last 15km are not terribly inspiring, but we've ridden it so often that it becomes a natural rhythm as it twists and turns.

We encountered several examples of unexpectedly good driving, which was reassuring after the punishment passes of Embankment and the unobservant idiot on the South Circular who needed words from User10571 before he woke up.

Home. Nearly 60km from leaving work. My legs know they've done a ride, and it's more than time for bed and sleep.

A good ride. A great idea. Marvellous company. Thank you all.

I noticed that a fair chunk of my route home last night (A3 and South Circular) has pristine, velvet smooth, recently laid blacktop (lovely).
Is it coincidence or is it because it forms part of the Olympic Road Race route?

I never pass the dog and bell when it's open, but every time i do go past I always think that it looks an absolutely cracking boozer (was it the one Squeeze frequented back in the day?)

What time and where do you want to meet?

I'm not committing, mind, but I could be tempted.
