According to the phonetics in my (collins) dictionary, Wednesday is pronounced wenzdi ... but more often than not on Radio 4, it's pronounced with the 'nes' in the middle.

could it be that radio 4 presenters are a bunch of either un-educated or over-educated twonks, or is my dictionary wrong?

There's a whole range of ways it might be realised in different accents, but the normal/nobber split is judged by whether you give it 2 or 3 syllables.
2 is 'street', 3 is for nobbers.

February. Most often pronounced.....................Feb-uary.

I say Feb-ru-ary even though it does seem awkward.

I don't know what I do with Wednesday now think about it.

There's a radio 4 and world service guy with a really deep voice who would pronounce the extra syllable - Neil Newness, I think, but it's probably Neil Newnes and he's insisted on putting an extra syllable in that too.

EDIT: no, it's Neil Nunes. I rest my case.

I've always pronounced it wed ns dy, and the other one feb rue arry.

Just learned it from my parents so some combination of dev'n 'n 'am'shire I suppose.
