Once your ABV reaches 40% + - you are at the ideal weight/bike ratio.

It's not either or is it? What's to stop you doing both?
And it's not just about the weight, sometimes and within reason better kit is nicer to ride.

I had a marked performance gain by losing weight and riding a heavier bike.

Ask the FNRttC crew for verification.

I'm waiting until I lose another seven stones before I'd contemplate buying something lighter if I haven't blown my budget on clothes in smaller sizes.

... a couple of kilos... :giggle:
I've gained a stone since November 1st and not been able to ride my bike since either... + I have enjoyed Christmas!
Back on the bike next week-end and I don't eat much mid-week so should be back down to racing snake [that one that's just eaten a gazelle] by Spring.

Wonder what everyone's total ride weight is complete with bike.
Think it would be interesting to see.

A bit pointless really as the bikes' weights vary so much.

To get to my target weight I need to shed the equivalent of:

3 x Dawes Galaxies or 6 x Scott Foil Premiums or 1 x Motor Speed £69.99 dual suspension 'special'

Why would it be pointless?
When we talk about weight on this forum we either talk about the weight of people, or the weight of the bikes, we never discuss the overall ride weight.
I would be interested to see the average weight forum members are dragging up hills.

My riding weight is between 140kg and 164kg depending upon which bike I'm riding, the weather conditions, the type of ride and the distance.

Not very helpful is it?
