The literature is confusing and contradictory, but does agree with proper assessment, but that is true for anyone who is undertaking a new sport

Your local Gym may be able to offer advice and even coaching if he really wants to pursue

My opinion comes through coaching sailing. Similar to the rugby ideology upthread so I'll go with 16+. I believe bones haven't finished growing and calcifying.

Father/son time: good. Sports injury carried for life: bad. Ask my left knee.
