Strange that autism has come up, having recently read about how Cadel Evans might have Aspergers it would certainly explain a lot for me as well, i always put it down to abandonment issues with my mother dieing when i was 10 but Aspergers certainly describes a lot of what i feel (although i could be a hypochondriac paranoid looking for answers )
Getting a diagnosis of any autistic spectrum disorder (like aspergers) can be a mixed blessing.

Having "answers" can be a huge benefit and also the diagnosis itself can lead to possible therapies too, if indeed they're wanted.

Problem can be having that "label". It may, just may, cause you disadvantages, even if they're not obvious. This label can possibly place you in a more "losing" position in an argument, for example.

This may be a can of worms and perhaps even the cafe sub forum of cyclechat is not the place to delve into it.

All the best matey.

Numbers thing for me, as well. Looking at the clock and seeing that it's 1:11, etc.

I turn crisps packets and similar wrappers into 3D triangles (brain not awake yet, you know what I mean...) or tie a know in them if they're too small.

All my books are in size order and arranged by genre. And my DVDs are alphabetical. I have no idea why I never trained to be a librarian. Muppet, I am.

On long car journeys, I imagine a ninja-kid on a skateboard travelling beside us who isn't allowed to touch the road so must manoeuvre the board on top of other cars or along fences etc, jumping all obstacles. Bonus points for making it to the top of a lorry.

On train journeys, it's someone on a horse, jumping all the hedges and fences.

Lots of things for me.

Numbers: I'm a lot 'better' now but if I used to see a small flock of birds I try and count them all, then try and count them again to see if I was right (a right nightmare ensues if the two amounts don't tally and I have to count them quickly a third time before they fly off).

I don't like others helping me to clean, tidy, wash cook etc because they always do it wrong don't do it the way I like.

I like papers, magazines books etc to be neat and tidy (like you always see the newsreaders do at the end of the news) and get annoyed if they're not in order.

Oh dear...!

My sister rarely used to dust, but she'd happily do the vacuuming 5-6 times a day.

My brother hates seeing stones on grass verges (in residential areas) and has a need to tidy up the neighbourhood when he's out for a walk.

Remember that Two Ronnies sketch in the library? One asked the librarian for a book and his reply was "what colour is it?, we have blue books over here, red books over there and green books over there."

Library was filed according to book colour!

Not anymore, they just mouseclick now, or have touchscreens in the desk.

Funny thing is, that I like sorting (by colour, by size, by alphabet, date whatever), but I'm really untidy - takes a big push to get me going on the sorting bit.

Tetrahedrons?
tetrahedron.jpg

When I have sweets or other foods with a foil wrapping I compress the foil into a tetrahedron.

During my College furniture making course one of the projects I have to make was an equilateral triangular box. The tutor meant something like this:
Fluted%20Triangular%20Box%20Small.JPG

But I interpreted it to mean a tetrahedron with an equilateral triangle on every side so I made one of those instead.
Every now and again I set to and make another one. Given away quite a few now.

A Dizzy M.A.B.I.L
When reading a book, after turning a page and beginning to read the first line of the new page I almost always turn back to re-read the last line of the page I have just finished before continuing, and I have no idea why.

Confused? I am!
I do that too, i'm mildly dyslexic. If I have a pause while reading I get confused, so have to re-read a line/paragraph to keep the 'flow' going.

#2 son is Autistic (amongst other things) Before his diagnosis, I noted lots of 'odd' behaviour... He would have to sniff anything/everyhting including people when he first encountered them.
When in his buggy going down our road he would scream every so often for no obvious reason - Once he started to toddle alongside his buggy, I discvoered the reason, he had to shut the gates that were left open.
He couldn't keep eye contact with people, (depending on the tone of voice being used) which some found rather ride when they try to talk to him & would laugh when being 'told off'
For us the diagnosis was a blessing, it explained his quirks, Once people know he's an Auty, they don't mind being sniffed!!

Purveyor of fine nonsense
I like to creep into my neighbour's garden in the nude, and pleasure myself in a bush (scuse the pun), while wearing a pair of her underpants on my head, which I've woofed off the clothes line on as I dive into ...

Oh darn it!

Wrong forum, sorry.

I think the cafe is a fine place to discuss it if people want to but do understand if folk didn't want to discuss it in "public". There's an online test and saw where I was on the spectrum, I could see where it was going from the questions. I reckon my non neurotypical traits are beneficial.

test here if anyone is interested.

Not sure if it's been posted on CC before?

I've done the online tests and similar ones in various books and I score quite high for Asperger's.

I wouldn't mind a formal diagnosis as it will help explain why I am the way I am and I can then explain why I might not always be an easy person to meet or be with. It is really hard work conforming to what people expect me to do then it is to just ignore them until I am ready to be sociable.

I think more and more people are getting familiar with the idea of the spectrum, and the fact that we're all on it somewhere (albeit, some people very very slightly), and that means it's a little better understood. And most people have some little trait that they think is odd (witness, this thread), which in fact is much more common than they think - like my peanut sorting habit.

Your boxes sound much more interesting than a "flat" one
