Went out for a walk on the downs today and brushed my hand on a sapling in a hedgerow. Now ever since I have had a painful hand. Feels a bit like a stinging nettle kind of pain but no little white bumps and the pain has yet to go away. Any ideas what it may have been? Should I write my will now.

Very possibly Blackthorn that you have brushed against. Best to get it seen to, as it can turn nasty; although I am virtually immune to it now.

You mean you've drunk enough sloe gin?

I thought with blackthorn you tended to get the tips of the thorns left in the skin, so you'd see them...

Worth sloshing on some TCP or Savlon, and seeing how it feels in the morning. If you live that long.

No thorn tips that I can see. Will give it the night before I call in the wwhite coat brigade. If I wake up that is will also give sudacream a go as its all I have laying about.

Ivy can bring you out in a rash - goes away in 3 days.

I'm always getting Euphorbia sap on my hands - they swell up by a third - I really should wear gloves!!
