I did the C2C stretch from Sunderland to Stanhope and back the other day.

Except I didn't because the path from Stanhope to Parkhead Station is poor and difficult to follow - the woman in the cafe at Parkhead confirmed this.

So my suggestion would be to use the B road from Stanhope to Parkhead, taking in (reluctantly) Crawleyside Bank.

Again according to the woman in the cafe, lots of riders opt to do that.

If you do use the path near Stanhope watch out for adders.

I saw one basking in the sun.

Mind, it looks like rain for when you will be going so any sensible snake will be staying under cover.

If you are going to be riding on tarmac you will get there with a lot less effort if you ditch the knobblies and fit slicks or commuter tyres.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2640416 also might be a good idea to miss out the garragill section and go into alston and then straight road to nenthead.. as we did ^_^
