Well how did you celebrate this Jubilee lark?

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Rode around the streets of Kent, Sussex and Surrey, amazed at how much bunting there was. Passed a donkey being walked up to a street party (road closed but nothing kicking off) about lunchtime, gawped at the good folk of Lydd dancing the Hokey-Cokey in the rain (streets closed but easy to walk around), passed a street closed for a beer festival (and street party). Went out in the evening for a sleepy pasta.

We usually get the tail-end of the birthday fly-past here, but I've heard nothing all day.

Oh, if only....

I remember once there was flypast involving a Spitfire and the Arrows, and lots of comments about how one was flying flat out, and the others dawdling as slowly as they could, to keep together.

When the Shakeltons were replaced by Tornados they did a flypast with the Shack going at top speed and the Tornado going as slowly as they dared.

With the Lanc's reputation for lowflying, I wondered if it would collect the Royal Standard off the top of the Palace as it went.

Well it was certainly big enough, that's for sure!

Took Mrs A_T on her fifth Cyclone training ride out to Capheaton cafe... but it was closed! So cycled back ...28 miles in all... very proud. Lovely day, sunny and just a bit breezy. After tea went down to e=watch the fireworks... managed to miss the TV completely.

I was thinking that the Guy Falks connection wouldn't have been lost on her.

Well yesterday we had a street party. I was slightly worried that it would be sparsely attended by the few who organised it and end up being a couple of tables huddled in the middle of the road amongst cars that no-one would be bothered to move.

How wrong I was.

By 1:00 the road was full of tables groaning under food - so much that people were taking some back to their houses for later. It appeared that everyone had cooked something, and with a road as diverse as mine, that meant there was a vast array of different types of cuisine, from jam sandwiches to onion bhajees, from goat curry to paella.

The whole road turned out for lunch and stayed for the rest of the day. There were bouncy castles, face painting and games for the kids. There were huge loudspeakers belting out everything from white cliffs of dover to reggae and bhangra. We had fancy dress competition and a tug of war. Everyone seemed to be really enjoying themselves. More food turned up all afternoon until no-one could eat any more. Even when the council opened the road back up again, people were still dancing and kids playing in the street whilst the occasional confused driver picked their way past.

I spoke to neighbours I had never before met. People were wondering why on earth we didn't do this every year. I realised that my neighbours are superb and know how to throw a great party.

The Queen might have had Kylie Minogue and Robbie Williams at her party, but I bet she didn't have the opportunity to Zumba in the street with her neighbours. She should have popped in!

Brilliant. See that's the point. Now the ice is broken, people know each other better, and you'll find an excuse to do it again I bet.

Oaf on a Bike
Ive watched some of it on tv, some interesting bits but mostly just hours and hours of the same thing. The boat thingy was rather impressively organised though and i liked the theatre people with the weird horse costume. Ive been quite underwhelmed about the whole thing really, but its nice to have a national celebration.

We had a street party in our road, most people rarely ever spoke to anyone and couldnt even recognise some of our neighbours, which was quite amusing, but everyone had a good time. Its quite funny how anti-social most of us are to those around us.

I had been drinking all afternoon, went out with friends after, got too drunk and was sick on the doorstep  xx( I got up early this morning to clean it and had to do a double take when i looked out to see two stray kitties dining on it

I need to get out on the bike, new cassette should arrive in the morning so ill go test it out ;D

I spent Friday evening and all day Saturday and Sunday trying to drink the excessive amount of alcohol that a mate and i took to Knockengorroch supplemented by some great draught ginger beer, ginger cider and heather beer. We failed to drink our car dry but contributed to the draining of the ginger beer barrels. The music and atmosphere was tremendous and the worst ever midges seen in the five years that i've been going failed to dampen spirits.

Monday was spent driving back to Leeds calling in for a pub meal at Low Row near Reeth having found the pubs at Tan Hill, Thwaite and Gunnerside packed to gunwales. Went to Slimming World and found that I'd put ten pounds on in the week - probably the weekend if I'm honest. Had an early night to recover and plot some weight loss actions

Today I went out and did a 100km DIY Audax that went over distance and I completed it in record time - a personal best average speed for any Audax that i'd ever ridden. I wonder if I'd had my food and drink adulterated with performance enhancing drugs or the midge burger that I sampled had similar properties to EPO because of the blood content of the protein donors.
