Well I went to see Quantum Of Whatsit

Bourne was rubbish in comparison to both CR and QoS. Both are much better films. By the 3rd Bourne film I couldn't be bothered to find out what happened.

Saw this on Saturday evening. What a load of tosh!

Now I've seen every Bond film and some are great, some are good and some are average. What they all have in common though is on a rainy, winters Sunday afternoon when I was not doing anything I would watch any one of them again. That is until now.

The Quantum of Solace is rubbish and I'll tell you why. Now I know it's meant to be all moody and dark now and they are dropping the cheese etc.... but the bottom line is Daniel Craig has brought too much of his moody, up his own arse, aloof personality to the role. Casino Royale was a good film but this is not!

This film lacked much more than just his boring performance. It had:-

A very, very poor, non descript villan
Only one decent car
No gadgets
Only one decent looking Bond gril
Crap locations
No funny one liners
Too much action to the point it was boring
Shite fragmented plot (think they got bored and thought how we going to tie all this up. The last 20 mins are a joke)
Shite dialogue
Shite theme song
You couldn't connect with Bond at all

I could go on. The only decent thing was Daniel Craigs clothes.

Apart from that, it was alright!

Car crashes in the underground car park and the entire hotel blows up! I'm not exaggerating, that's exactly what happens.

And how come, if Bond is such a highly trained expert killing machine, does it take him ten minutes to beat the weedy little bad guy in a fight?

I don't think those kind of direct comparisons tell you much except about personal tastes. Bond films have always had a very different style, and if anything, judging by what's been said here, the latest one is forgetting that - same as they did with License to Kill. The Bourne films are no more 'grown up', they are just less fantastic in style. I enjoyed them all, but there's really only one scene in one of the films that is really destined to be inconic and that's the scene at Waterloo station with the CCTV cameras. None of the characters, including the hero, are remotely memorable (no irony intended).

I really enjoyed it! A more than worthy addition to the series. Good solid plot, plenty of edge to the action and some good sequences.

As it happens I'm currently working my way very slowly through the back-catalogue and actually apart from the action scenes, Craig is very like Connery in his style.

I thought Q of S. was Ok, not too bad; I think some are perhaps expecting too much. I've seen all the Bonds, all the Bournes, and I prefer the latter for pure excitement/gripping entertainment.

My QofS 2p:
Good action sequences, with plenty of impact. Except - the 'explosive' finale being a tad 'Bond of the 70s', if you know what I mean.
Slightly thin plot.
Predictable in places - (you just knew the 'only person he could trust' was not going to last long...)

Overall - 65%

QOS has just been released here in Finland and went to see it in Sat night.

I liked it but it seemed to be lacking that 'James Bond touch'. There was no real plot, what plot there was seemed to be all over the place, and there was no memorable JB scene that we all remember from a JB film such as the poker game in Casino Royale or the woman painted in gold paint in Goldfinger for example.

I saw it on Friday night. As has been said, much more like the Bourne trilogy than Bond in feel. The problem is that Bourne does it better - the premise of not knowing his identity conferred a vulnerability and intrigue that sustained all 3 films. All Bond had was a collection of nicely filmed action sequences and a bit of moping around.

I'd have been happier with him doing some mopping around, would have made it far more interesting IMO.

Not a great film by any stretch of the imagination. But each to their own.
