My bike was stolen! For those who might not know I got a bike end of year before last and around 6months later it was stolen while padlocked to a bike-ring under my block of flats!

I bought another bike, paid out for an expensive D-lock which I used to attach it to a another bike-ring, stored in a bike shed with a code locked door and this has been stolen!

Apparently someone forgot to shut the code locked door behind them and some gits got in and took most of the bikes. They got round the locks by actually unbolting the bike-rings from the floor and taking them as well!

Thankfully I had insured it AND they have agreed to pay out. However apparently I have to pay £100 excess because it was taken from a communal area and I was paid out the remainder in Halfords vouchers (as that's where the stolen bike was originally bought from).

Maybe life is telling me something...2 bikes, 2 different locations, 2 different locks.....both stolen

Sorry to hear that! At least the insurance paid out. Is there anywhere indoors you can keep your bike?

Sorry to hear it! At least your insurance is paying up.

Don't give up on biking! Even with the thefts etc it'll be cheaper than driving an it's keeping you healthy.

What about a folding bike you can keep indoors? Would the Mrs agree to that? What about a different Mrs?!

Sorry to hear that, swampyseifer!

Mine soon to be back-up commuter bike was nicked whilst locked-up outside my flat last week. I have to pay £300 excess on mine, but should get about £270 back. Have already bought the new 'soon-to-be-back-up commuter, and if I find the scrote(s) who nicked it, I'll break their effing fingers.

Hope it's not a case of third time unlucky for you.

Sadly, if someone's determined to take your bike then they're going to take it and there's not a huge amount you can do about it.

My wife had 2 stolen within the space of 3 months from her place of work in Southwark. After the 2nd theft, she sold the insurance replacement and bought a cheap and cheerful 2nd hand Dawes that nobody would look twice at. She had that for years.

A folding bike is a good idea. Dahon make some fairly decent full sized folding frames (although I don't think they're sold at Halfords). Maybe she'll let you keep a bike in doors when she realizes it's going to cost a fortune in replacement bikes otherwise!

Scum. Sorry for you mate.

Your Memsahib must be downright unreasonable if she insists you store you bike where thieves are just harvesting them.

Indoors only for valuable bikes.

Well i can see her point we dont really have much space for a non-folder.

I'm not sure how much use a folding bike would be as I've at least always assumed they're mainly road bikes and I need something more off road.

I've got a decathlon hoptown 5. Brilliant bike. If I could only keep one bike, I think it would be that one.

How much off road? - folder would be ok for trails etc.
