I ought to point out that wiring a bike to the mains would place you at risk of being sued for any injury to anyone who touched the bike.
However, if a bike was being worked on, such that the brakes were disconnected pending adjustment, and the seatpost and handlebars were loose while setting up, then it would be hard to prove you'd deliberately left a death-trap lying around in the hope that your local bike thief would hurt himself very badly indeed. :whistle:

Or a loose d lock attached to said owner.

But you hadn't delliberately left it - you put it out of harm's way in a Locked bike shed, attached to bike stand to make sure no one injured them selves. See you took precautions to prevent it happening ;)

It's difficult to stop a determined thief taking your bike away in a van though... I agree that now the thieves know the bikes are there they'll return again... best keep it indoors until things calm down for a year or so. Could you put a mahoosive alarm klaxon inside the shed door?
