Well I've done it, I've sold the car.

I'll work on getting arthritis then
I would not bother, it seldom puts a smile on your face.

I expect you know but there are so the trade tells me 750,000 Notability cars on our roads. Personally I would rather be fit and pay for our cars.

Well done. I can't wait to get rid of our cars, mobile phones too, I am selling my Jeep Cherokee next week, it's done 600 miles in 12 months. A 2003 MX 5 is arriving on Sunday to replace the damaged 1998 one, the perfect car for family of 5. ^_^

I don't have a car. Most of my mates do, but I don't. Admittedly, I don't live in a very populated area - the city is an hour away by car! Seven hours by bike... I biked there last Summer, best day of my summer - that's for sure!

It's a small inconvenience when winter hits and you want to go somewhere and do something, but can't. But other than that, the amount of money I've saved has been tremendous.

We did it today. Our little Ka failed it's MOT as it was all corroded underneath, so we let it go. We currently don't need a car and rarely drive it, so are not replacing it immediately. We are well served by TFL, cycling and there's a zip car one street away.

Even though I probably drove it once a month, I'm a little twitchy. If I start audaxing again this year, that's going to be a challenge.

16 months since I got rid of my car. I really enjoy getting places under my steam. Do most of my local journeys by bike and do most of my shopping by bike too. I have to hold my hand up though and say that my OH does have a car which I use but only very occasionally.

Been some interesting challenges. How to get my daft labrador to his Doggy day care before work? Trixie bike lead, which he loves. Then we needed to work out how to get my son's brakeless (!!!!!) speedway bike to the track for his taining sessions/competitions without him killing himself on the way there - we bought a used child trailer which is still waiting to be fettled into a speedway bike carrier/general purpose cargo trailer, in fact I think that will be this weekends little task!

I also bought a folding bike for the occasions that I go on the train as I get a bit stressed about being turned away due to full bike spaces. The folding bike gets used lots more than I ever though it would. If I know I'm going to get picked up by OH for example, I'll usually use the folder. In fact we're getting another one so we have one each it's that handy.

My last two cars have both been ex-Motability cars - I had a contact in the trade. Low mileage, but they both stank of smoker.
The last one has just failed on me after nine good years and I'm wondering whether I need to replace it, since I no longer have a job to go to and only do about 4000 essential miles a year. There is a GeeWhizz station just round the corner.

Yes they certainly can be a good buy, however smoker smell, dog smell, and just pure neglect is often involved with them. Not sure now but even cars like the MX5 were available on Motability. However as I said earlier I would much rather be fit and pay for my own.

I completely agree. The depressing thing about Motability users is that a large proportion have spent decades eating and smoking themselves into that condition. I occasionally think "Why should I spend my taxes looking after them when they can't be arsed to look after themselves?"

I don't drive only because I have not passed the so called test. Now I have to resit my theory? Nah. What's the point when I would only become a cash machine for everyone els. I'm happy on my bike. I'm never happy with how little bikes I have though
