Today I rode 31.22 miles, or as our European friends call it, 50.2 km, I'm really pleased,I never thought that i would manage such a distance when I first started out on the bike after so many years away from cycling, when I upped the distance from 5 to 7 miles, to do over 30 miles seemed an impossible pipe dream, but it's done now, the only downer was a slow speed off on some very slippy wet block paving, but hey ho these things happen and nothing broke. So all in all not a bad morning's ride out.

Thanks everyone, the silly thing is I had to ride past the entrance to our street, go to the end of the road and do a u turn to go over 30.98 miles, because I wasn't going to miss out by such a small distance after putting the effort in to go so far!

Top effort! As others have suggested, just gently chip away the distances. You may not want to do much more than you already have, and there's nothing to say you have to keep going further and further.

I must admit, I do tend to use kilometres to measure my rides. It just seems to be the universal language of cycling, and when I cycled up Mont Ventoux earlier this year 22 kilometres riding uphill sounded just that bit more impressive than 13 miles!

Keep on enjoying your cycling!

One of the great pleasures of being able to ride further is it opens up more and more new routes to try. I love riding on roads I've never tried before. As the mileage I can handle has increased, the routing options have increased too. I'm sure this will be a motivation to keep chipping away at the maximum distance, just as it was for me. Just yesterday I rode through some villages I've never seen before, despite them being only 20 miles away.
