I think I'd have been better with a kayak on the way home tonight. The roads were so bad that I hit 3 puddles floods, one of which was up to the level of my BB and just rode up the long hill through a river coming the other way.

Perhaps the met office have a point about this severe weather warning thing.

Big question though - Why was I grinning so much while I was getting soaked? After the waterproofing failed and I conceded i was going to get soaked I felt like a kid bouncing through the puddles

It's good fun................

Only down side is smelly shoes from the amount of rain - I avoid this with good overshoes and waterproof trousers in the bad stuff. My mate was saying this morning how bad his relatively new shoes had got - his wife nearly shot him for drying them on the radiator as they stunk the house out, and he's had to leave them in the workshops at work, rather than take into the office !!

+1

No rain = good
Slight rain = suck
Loads of rain = fun

Getting slightly wet sucks, but once you resign yourself to being wet, who gives a toss

Going home I don't mind it so much though, coming to work I just know that sometimes it wont dry out fast enough before I have to put stuff on again... eeergh.

The rain has been really fun this week. Even getting home covered in mud and sand from the trails has been fun (apart from my wife ready to castrate me for introducing half of the sahara desert into our dining room).

I've even started cycling in my swimming shorts as I know I'm going to get wet anyway, the only worrying thing is whether my iPod and phone are going to start objecting to getting a little soggy in their arm straps.....

The wind has been a nightmare though, but fortunately my ride home is straight north so it's been a welcome push up the sharp hills near home.

Weather turned really cold on the way home. Gloves left at home  so hands on the way back were freezing. Infact I was cold all over.

It's amazing how cold your body feels when your hands get cold isn't it.

Looking at the weather I think I need to get out tomorrow in the nice weather, but it's going to be a nightmare commute on Monday (add 59mph gusts to the heavy rain )

Unfortunately even waterproof overshoes and leggings didn't stand a chance against the amount of water I threw at them yesterday. I need to get some faster drying shoes as the LIDL ones I use atm can take days

I took my MTB for a (road) spin last night and was fairly dry until 2 miles from home and all of a sudden a was absolutely soaked and similarly to yourself, riding in conditions more suited to a boat. Funny thing is, I too loved it:smile: It did help that I was nearly home and that the wind had dropped off.

I find that stuffing newspaper into wet shoes and leaving them overnight gets them dry very effectively.

Best bike packed away till spring , i am riding the subway 1 hack now till spring .

As for wet feet i always carry a couple of plastic food bags to bung in my shoes just in case , as well as rain legs .
I have overshoes but i save them for the cold.

Worse even is that there is no gloves at home - Must have left both pairs in my bag at work.
Hope it's dry Monday as the only gloves I have are wooly !
