Would you ride on this or is it for the bin? Bontranger Hardcase, so they're fairly robust. Haven't done all that many miles though (perhaps a few hundred) and I'm a little miffed at how soon they have developed biggish cuts. I have been commuting on this all week and think it will probably hold ok, because they are thick heavyweight tyres. If it was a lightweight folding jobbie it would be history, no question.

Cheers

You won't like this, but as the cut is in the sidewall I'd be inclined to bin it. If that fails it will do so suddenly and without warning!

I'd also be annoyed about having to do so as I like to get my money's worth out of tyres.

Looks like it could go anytime, but if money is an issue, you could put a bit of old sidewall under it.
Remove that part of the tyre and put a bit of old tyre on the inside.
At the end of the day its up to you, but as we all know safety really is the no 1 priority.

How would you feel going down hill at 30+ mph knowing you have that ready to go at any time?
For peace of mind I'd bin it

Annoying when that happens .I wouldnt trust it. I had to bin a newish bontrager hardcase with a similar cut but have also got some good mileage out of them .

FWIW I usually use these tyres. That's a pretty unusual occurence with them.

If you really want to, you could glue it and see what happens after a ride or 2.

They are cheap ish tyres so not the end of the world to lose one.

Not had much luck with gluing them in the past. I found that when the glue hardened it acted as a large flint and inbedded itself into the tube or cut the tyre up even worse. Maybe I'm just unlucky.
