Welling High Street and constant yearly roadworks.

Anybody else have the joy of commuting through Welling High Street. Over the last four years they seem to have been working on the same traffic island down the bottom end of the high street this year they have gone one better and created utter Choas. Traffic was alway back upper wickham lane last night with more road works and temporary traffic lights down there. Not content with making high street a virtual car park they are now working their way through upper wickham lane.

Gosh someone who knows Welling! So long as they sort out that stupid, stupid junction onto Hook Lane I'm not really bothered what they do. As a non-car owner I have to admit to a certain schadenfreude though as the traffic backs past my house about a mile away!

Not near Welling but I had the same problem on the road where my office is - our complaint was constant noise as one agency after another dug us up. Turns out we were later identified as the "most dug-up road in Central London" and it's less than 1/4 mile long! In our office block we banded together and talked to the council, who realised that what we had to put up with was intolerable and regulated it a bit better after that. We still have loads of building work in the street and lots of big deliveries but it's better. Mind you, that's partly because all the sewer replacement has finished anyway.

I would become a squeaky wheel if I were you - you will also become better informed about what is going on so might see an end in sight.

I know Welling well (my parents live there) and they are saying that the road is chaos as they have roadworks at the Danson Park end as well.

Bexley Borough has always struck me as a horrible borough for cycling, but there does seem to be more cyclists when I visit these days. I liked the bus lane along the high street which was removed because drivers were getting tickets! Then when it was removed, they left the red tarmac so drivers didn't use the new lane anyway because they were confused by it...

When i cycle home via shooters hill, i always turn up by Welling station and go via the back roads, much better than going down the high street to Crook log.

The bus lane is great. It's an empty lane and usually when I'm coming in from that end of town I've got 100 miles behind me and a nice quiet stretch of road is perfect.
