Nipped to the local computer shop to get a new graphics card to replace the one thats given up, nipped in to Rick Green cycles for a mooch, my CTW is due up on the 1st of December, had a chat with a chap called Paul and said I fancied an Allez, I gravitated to the Elite model seeing as I have some company/givernment money to spend and I only pay just over half of it back so we used the full whack, stuck £50 down at my suggestion to get the ball rolling and give me £50 for anything I think of when it turns up.

I went for the elite but specified a slightly more robust rear wheel as I am sixteen stones in weight which may come down a bit but there isnt that much spare so the wheel is an insurance policy, plus I get a spare, got some SPD's and a new helmet as well, trouble is delivery quote as Feb, not a problem as I will wait until summer to give it any serious use.

CTW is wonderful if your company is in it, I get to buy expensive (buy my standards) bikes past the wife without her batting an eyelid, will be good to have two proper bikes, removes an excuse if the commuter is broken !

Well done - I know Paul well (Paul Green - Rick's son and manager of the shop) - used to race against him - although I haven't been in for a while as another 'friend' has a bike shop....ahem...

Paul's a very good wheel builder btw...

Dangerous going into bike shops......

My scheme is up in May........must not..must not, although I only save about 30%

I will buy one pretty much every time it comes up, for what it costs plus i have three kids (all boys) so when I have done with a bike I can pass it on to them.

I only worry that the next government may knock it on the head.

In 2004 I went into my LBS, John Atkins Cycles, now Coventry Cycle Centre, for an innertube and came out with a brand new Dawes Giro. They had it reduced in their sale and I couldn't resist it.

Thats like going to the barbers and ending up buying a car :biggrin:
My company dont do CTW and its always gutted me.

Hows this for looking on the bright side ?...my companys on its knees but hanging in there, redundancies looming after christmas. Being the optimist, i'm thinking....i may end up in a new job where hopefully, they'll have CTW

Every cloud ?

Must add that my fear that the next government may knock it on the head has no basis in fact or even hearsay, it just seems like something they could quietly bin to save a few quid but I suppose its a comparatively cheap to run scheme and would look bad for the green credentials of a political party, on the one hand hammering the motorist but on the other not giving valid alternatives so I think we should be ok yet.

Gbb, good luck with the redundancies, hope it goes whatever way you want it to, sometimes its best to take the cash if its looking dicey, but bear in mind when attending an interview asking about CTW as the first question is probably inadvisable
