Sometime ago I remember a member posting a stat concerning how the percentage of commutes which it was likely to be raining on at usual commuting times was actually quite small compared to our perception of how often it rains on our commutes. In other words it's not raining as often as we think.
I'd like to see him post that stat again, and yes I do remember who posted it!!
I have only worn full wet gear twice this year and that was during the winter when it was cold rain. This time of year I just get wet in my normal cycling gear, which seems to have happened more this year than last, although I am cycling further.I've been keeping score since Feb of the number of times it has rained on my commute (separate counts for going and returning).
Total rides - 165
Number of times rained - 19
Percentage wet therefore 12%
Note, that I count a wet ride broadly something that means I have to get my raincover out and/or my shoes have started to get a soaking.
It rained yesterday... of my 4 rides how many were rainy? none!Your figures may be a little conservative as this year April, May and June have each been the wettest since records began in 1910. It's certainly rained more than 19 times on me this year.
Thats exactly the point, although it may rain on a regular basis, apparently the actual frequency that it falls during your commute is allegedly far less than you may imagine. It rained yesterday... of my 4 rides how many were rainy? none!
Sure it's rain more than 19 times but that doesn't mean 400hp was actually riding at that time.
