Is it just me or are these places general full of social handgrenades?

Was in the one in Glasgow earlier as I bummped into a guy I know and it started pissing down so we jumped in for a pint. Hadn't been in one for years as not really my cup of tea.

The vast majority of tables were filled by a menancing looking males drinking on their own plotting their next killing spree.

Horrible huge atmosphere devoid places. I actually have never seen a decent one. Strange thing is though they are obviously trying to attract a certain standard of clientele with their cheap booze offers but had a huge fridge behind the bar full of lovely, but expensive continetal beers Duval, Leffe etc etc.....

scary scary places

I was in one years ago. There was a rather unattractive woman at the next table. Anyhow, she coughs and some sort of globule landed on my wrist. It was one of the most unpleasant experiences of my life. I'm amazed walking past them how people could go in such a skanky enviroment for pleasure??

Oh! and curiously, most of the above mentioned 'gentlemen' in this pub seemed to favour bronchitis, black leather jackets with too many HUGE pockets, half mast Wranglers, white sport socks and black slip ons.

I think the concept is Ok, but they have become a little tired with time and all the ones I have been in really could do with a significant investment of cash. Standing Order in Edinburgh, could be outstanding, but just looks sad. The office tend to visit a couple in Glasgow, and I have dragged along on occasions.

The examples in Central London seem OK, although I remember when most of them were still banks!!

i will have to agree with you, there is a few around my area, there is only 1 decent wetherspoons. It has a good atmosphere but it has its fair share of people drinking by themselfs.

I've only been in two, and that was a good few years back.

That was some lock in then! Good to see you on here again Smokin Joe.

There's a Wetherspoons near me and it's good for a fry up and coffee while reading the paper in a comfy leather chair of a morning.

+1

Longers! I trust that you only observe 'these people' indulging in fry-ups &c as you swoop by the window before hitting the big hills for fitness reps.

Never been in one. In fact, prior to last Saturday, I hadn't been in a pub since the Whitstable ride last year.
