it was - on my bike this morning, quiet roads, cool morning air with the sun taking any edge off - and i'm beginning to demolish my times from when i first set out on my commute not quite 4 months ago - 30 minutes for the 1st leg of my commute was not uncommon while my body and brain tried to fathom what exactly i thought i was doing to it after so many years with little exercise. this morning with the weather set fair and no thoughts at all of trying to push for a time, it was amazing to see how far i've come...i turned the cyclemeter app on and set off.

i got up the rise (which i used to refer to as a hill) in the 6th of my 8 gears today too. this is the only part of the 1st leg that i made a conscious effort on - normally i'm lazy and will drop the bike down to 4th - arriving at the railway station with a little sweat on but not blowing out my @rse like i used to i press done on cyclemeter...

5.68 miles - 19mins 40 secs - ave speed 17.34mph  <<< this was my face

i think the most important thing though is that my road sense/cycle craft has improved massively and i love being on the bike

I have been cycling for many years and still don't get board of the feeling of achievement after a day out on the bike

Its good to see improvement and to feel more confident on the bike.

Viva la speed.

12 miles for me today in just over two hours - average 5.6mph - am going for my slowest ever record. Nearly broke it today- will have another go tomorrow

But speed = enjoyment, surely?

But speed = enjoyment, surely?

I find that the inverse is true. If I plod along at 12mph, I enjoy myself. And maybe a little sprint is nice, but if all I am focused on is getting my time down, I find that it saps the fun. I've also found two colleagues who hate their cycle in, and are delighted when they shave off a few seconds...
