This almost sounds like a guilty pleasure but it's not… …seek this one out, please! Especially it will appeal to the Scots among us.

A very interesting new album release called 'Words Unspoken' from Barbara Dickson is a complete departure from some of the more MoR and songs from musicals she's latterly more known for.

It's a complete return to her roots, as she started out as a singer of Scottish roots songs in her native Dunfermline in the early 1970s. It's new versions of some wonderful songs from Scotland's past, including 'Ythanside', 'The trees they do grow high', and the iconic 'Smile in your sleep'.

The only song that jars, imho, is a cover version of 'Bridge over troubled water', which although good, for me, it doesn't fit the mood at all. Maybe it's a marketing tool.

Very excited! new CD just arrived and I've waited years for this to be re-mastered onto CD. It's 'Rick Nelson in Concert - The Troubadour 1969'. Rick Nelson's really underrated but he was there at the start of rock and roll and made some great records with James Burton doing the honours on guitar. He was also a big part of country rock and the Stone Canyon Band made some fine music. Anyway Ace records have done this proud, a 2 CD set with loads of extra music over and above the original LP release - it sounds great too :becool:

Couple of youtube clips of RN from around that time, great intro on the TV show clip!!

This could almost be posted in the 'musicians we miss' thread too - RN died, aged 45, on new years eve 1985 on his way to a concert, his last studio LP 'Playing to Win' from 1981 is one of my favourite LPs.
