This almost sounds like a guilty pleasure but it's not… …seek this one out, please! Especially it will appeal to the Scots among us.
A very interesting new album release called 'Words Unspoken' from Barbara Dickson is a complete departure from some of the more MoR and songs from musicals she's latterly more known for.
It's a complete return to her roots, as she started out as a singer of Scottish roots songs in her native Dunfermline in the early 1970s. It's new versions of some wonderful songs from Scotland's past, including 'Ythanside', 'The trees they do grow high', and the iconic 'Smile in your sleep'.
The only song that jars, imho, is a cover version of 'Bridge over troubled water', which although good, for me, it doesn't fit the mood at all. Maybe it's a marketing tool.
