Captain Beefheart at his chooglingly listenable London 1974 best:...Make the most - I doubt they'll be up for long. Better still, buy London 1974. :becool:

Nice one Foghat, hadn't heard that album before, it's all on spotify as well if anyone's got that and wants a listen.
Ordered a copy anyway just to make sure it's always on tap! :becool:

Good stuff, TBM. The CD is quite superb, and the only reason such high quality music is little known is down to people who don't really get what makes good music 'cleverly' describing this phase in Beefheart's career as Captain Beefheart and the 'Tragic' Band, and 'too commercial' - presumably because it's rather less avant-garde than Trout Mask etc. Of course, in reality, it's extremely high calibre music with a nice feelgood groove to it, and here are a couple of videos from the same short-lived period where all the band dynamics can be enjoyed alongside the great sounds (although the synchronisation of audio/video in Full Moon is off in this rip, unfortunately):

Full Moon Hot Sun (it's interesting at 4'33" to see the guitarist tell the sax player to pack it in when Capt wants to sing again!)

Merle Haggard 'Live from Austin, Texas 1978' - superb CD/DVD set showcasing The Hag at the top of his game. This is the opening track, 'A Working Man can't get nowhere Today' - nice relentless driving beat to the first couple of tracks. Hag looks cool and in control, the voice is starting to get a really rich depth to it, although his song writing wasn't as strong in the 80s his voice got better and better in my opinion - combination of drugs, booze and fags contributing to it I guess. Remember this is '78 folks, some of the matching suits and shirts the band have on are 'of their time' as is the slide player's hair - you have been warned.
